The Help America Vote Alliance (HAVA) is hosting this Continuing Legal Education Course that will walk attorneys through several post-election laws and processes in North Carolina: Ballot Chase & Cure, Recounts, Challenges & Certification.

This continuing legal education course will provide attorneys with information and guidance on North Carolina’s laws, policies, and procedures on critical post-election topics. The course will explain relevant laws on “chasing and curing ballots,” provide an overview of the state’s recount rules and what triggers recounts, explain when a voter’s registration or eligibility may be challenged, and outline North Carolina’s certification process. This course will conclude with an in-depth “case study” of the 2025 Allison Riggs election cases and provide information about legal lessons learned and pitfalls to avoid moving forward.
